The Essence of Intercessory Prayer
What is intercession, anyway? Isn’t it the same as prayer or being a prayer warrior?
Well, yes it is, and no, it isn’t in some key ways!
Intercessory prayer is a type of prayer where a person asks God to intervene on behalf of another person, group, or situation. The word “intercessor” comes from Greek and means “to meet with, come between“. Some say that intercessory prayer involves bridging the gap between God’s will and the current reality of a person or situation on Earth. It’s also called, “standing in the gap”.
Intercession often begins with praise, followed by personal confession or cleansing. The person or situation being presented before the Lord may need salvation, healing or other types of deliverance. Fasting is often very effective when combined with intercession. If we remember Daniel in the Old Testament, he repented on his own behalf and on behalf of his people, and stood to see God’s plan for the return of the exiles as he realized by prophetic insight that the 70 years were about up, that had been prophesied by Jeremiah. Daniel 9:13-19 gives us deep insight into intercession.

How to start an intercessory prayer line:
I have a free conference phone line through the following site, and if you have a few people (at least 3 people), you can obtain a free phone conference line through them also. It’s best to have a focus area that God is impressing upon you and your prayer partners to pray about.
Simply having the desire to intercede on behalf of others, and a basic knowledge of Scripture is a good beginning. Always invite the Holy Spirit to lead and guide you in your prayers, and often pray Scripture back to God, as it’s His Word and He certainly honors it!
